There is a primary school in our area with outstanding inspection result. One school has good inspection result. The others school have satisfactory inspection result. Ideally she can get in the outstanding or good school. But she doesn't, I wonder if I should let her to have private primary education and hopefully she gets accepted to good public secondary school.
Me:" My daughter is 19 months old. Should I start looking for school?" Male colleague: "Yes! It's a good idea to put her on a list?" Me:" List? What list?" Male colleague:" Waiting list! Some good state primary schools have waiting list of three years! " *faint*
Ya.. last time my US friend, she actually MOVED into the "selected" area just to ensure her kids get into that good school.. I guess the schools are really DIFFERENT from M'sia... those so call bad ones are REALLY very drama type...

Steph, Yes, the male colleague I was talking also moved so that they can be in the catchment area of a good school.
Yen, The western parents are nowhere as kiasu as Asian parents. They just want their kids will go to a good school. They won't push for good results or private tuition etc. Like Steph said, students in bad schools are more likely to have behaviour problem. Drugs, bullying, fighting are very common.
We are going to visit all three private primary schools in our area. Put her name down and pay deposit in the one we like the most. And then wait till we get notified (when she is 3) which state school she has been allocated to. If the allocated state school is good or our financial situation won't allow us to send her to private school, we will give up the deposit and go to state school.
I guess the private school tuition fees will increase with years. right?
